Unreal science. Surprisingly realistic careers.
We are 5,400 people in six US locations turning difficult biology into medicines that reach patients. Researchers and reactor operators. Statisticians and sterile-fill technicians. People who have run trials, and people who have run flight lines. All of it takes a crew.
InGen Biotech Careers was invented in September 2026 to demonstrate CareerGPT by SonicJobs. Everything below — the company, the medicines, the 225 open roles — is fiction, built to behave exactly like the real thing.
Founded in 2003 to work on the diseases that were being left alone
InGen Biotech was started in a converted machine shop in Cambridge, Massachusetts by four researchers who wanted to work on disease biology that the industry had written off as too complicated to drug.
Twenty-three years later we are an integrated biopharmaceutical company: we discover our own molecules, run our own clinical programs, manufacture our own biologics, and commercialise our medicines across the United States. That end-to-end model is unusual at our size, and it is the reason a process engineer in Devens can walk down the corridor and talk to the person who designed the molecule she is making.
Our pipeline sits in four therapeutic areas: oncology, immunology and inflammation, rare metabolic disease and neuroscience, with six programs in Phase 3. Our three approved medicines, however, came out of the fifth area — the one our head of research still refers to, through visibly gritted teeth, as “the everyday afflictions portfolio”. They reach roughly 190,000 people a year and they pay for everything else.
There is also a fifth thing, and it is the reason half of you clicked this page. Our Ancient DNA & Paleogenomics group is nine people in San Diego who resurrect enzymes — reconstructing proteins from extinct organisms because ancient enzymes turn out to be unusually stable, and stable enzymes make better manufacturing. It is the smallest team in the company and it gets 40% of the questions.
“So… do you make dinosaurs?” No. Our recruiters logged the question 2,431 times in 2025 and the answer has been the same every time. Ancient DNA degrades into fragments far too short to rebuild an animal from, amber does not preserve what people think it preserves, and our bioethics board reviews every ancient-sequence proposal before a pipette is lifted. What we do make is enzymes, and one of them now runs in a purification step at Devens.
We are, however, aware of the company name. It was chosen in 2003 by four founders who thought it sounded serious. We have made peace with it.
AMBRALIX® (ambralextinib)
For chronic case of the Mondays. A once-weekly tablet taken Sunday evening. In the pivotal trial 71% of participants reported that the following Monday “felt like a Wednesday”, an endpoint the agency accepted after what our regulatory lead describes as a long afternoon. Approved 2019.
VELOSTRA® (velostrakinumab)
For depression of the funny bone. A first-in-class biologic that restores response to puns within six weeks and to slapstick within nine. Approved 2022, three months ahead of plan — which is, the naming committee insists, the only reason the word “velo” is in there. Not indicated for improv.
CRETALYN® (cretasiglucerase alfa)
For persistent stink-eye syndrome. The first approved treatment for involuntary withering glances lasting more than six months. Roughly 9,000 people worldwide meet the diagnostic criteria; our commercial team estimates the true figure is far higher and concentrated in open-plan offices. Approved 2024.
Our lead Phase 3 asset still carries its internal code, IG-65, after a number of millions of years that somebody found funny in 2004 and nobody has managed to retire since.
Fictional products of a fictional company, for demonstration purposes. None of these conditions exist, none of these medicines exist, and no prehistoric organisms were involved, revived, or otherwise inconvenienced.
Seven things worth knowing before you apply
We would rather tell you plainly what this place is like than sell you on it and lose you in month four.
We make what we discover
Roughly 35% of our people work in Technical Operations — process development, drug substance, fill-finish, quality, supply chain. If you want a career in biologics manufacturing rather than a job in it, that ladder exists here all the way to VP.
Hiring moves in weeks, not quarters
Median time from application to offer is 24 days. Manufacturing technician roles at Devens and Bloomington are hired at same-day events with offers within 48 hours. See the full process.
Degrees are not the only door
1 in 5 of our US manufacturing and quality colleagues joined without a four-year degree, through our apprenticeship, our SkillBridge cohorts or direct military hiring.
People move internally, on purpose
42% of open roles were filled by internal candidates in 2025. Managers are measured on people they export, not just people they keep.
GMP work is shift work
Our manufacturing sites run 24/7 on a 12-hour rotating schedule. It is a real trade-off, and we pay for it: 12% second-shift, 18% third-shift and 20% weekend-crew differentials on top of base. How pay works.
We ask whether we should before whether we can
Our bioethics board has a standing veto and has used it four times, twice on programs that were scientifically exciting and commercially attractive. Every scientist here can take a proposal to it, and the minutes are published internally in full. It is the most InGen thing about InGen.
Hybrid, but honest about it
Site-based office roles are onsite three days a week (Tuesday, Wednesday and one team day). Lab, plant and quality roles are onsite by nature. 75 of our 225 open roles are fully remote — largely field medical, commercial and some data roles — are fully remote, and those postings say so.
Eight ways into InGen
Every open role sits in one of these areas. Each one has its own career framework, its own levelling and its own entry points.

Explore →We hire a lot of veterans, and we are specific about why
A pharmaceutical plant runs on documented procedure, calibrated equipment, shift handover discipline and a culture where stopping the line is rewarded. That is not a metaphor for military service — it is close to a description of it.
Military-connected colleagues are 11% of our US workforce, about 640 people, and we have committed to 15% by 2028. We run four DoD SkillBridge cohorts a year, pay differential to Guard and Reserve members called to active duty for up to 24 months, and guarantee an interview to any veteran who meets the stated minimum qualifications for a role.
What you get for showing up
The short version. The long version is on the benefits page, and it is genuinely long, because this is the part candidates ask about most.
401(k) that actually adds up
100% match on the first 6% of pay, plus a 3% non-elective contribution whether or not you contribute. Immediately vested.
16 weeks paid parental leave
For every new parent, birth, adoption or surrogacy, from day one of employment. Plus 8 weeks additional birth recovery and a paid phased return.
$45,000 family building
Lifetime fertility, IVF, adoption and surrogacy support through our NurturePath partner, with no infertility diagnosis required.
12 free therapy sessions
Per person, per issue, per year — for you and everyone in your household, including dependents at college.
Up to 30 days PTO
Plus 13 holidays — one of which is Jeff Goldblum's birthday, and we would rather you found that out now — a winter shutdown from 24 December to 1 January, two floating days and two paid Impact Days for volunteering.
$12,000 a year for tuition
Undergraduate or graduate, no repayment clause after 12 months, plus student loan repayment of $150 a month up to $10,000.
Four-week paid sabbatical
At seven years of service, and every five years after that. Roughly 300 colleagues take one each year.
Shares in the company
Employee share purchase at a 15% discount with a six-month lookback, and annual RSU grants from grade 6 upward.
Four people, four routes in
I spent nine years as a Navy nuclear electrician's mate. The first week here somebody handed me a batch record and I thought, this is a reactor plant manual with different nouns. Four years later I run the automation team on Building 4.
Devon R.Automation Lead, Drug Substance · Devens, MA · joined 2022 via SkillBridge
I came in as a summer intern in computational biology and stayed. The thing nobody tells you about a company this size is that you can email the person who ran the Phase 2 and they will just answer.
Priya S.Senior Scientist, Translational Data Science · Cambridge, MA · joined 2021 as an intern
I did 14 years in retail pharmacy before the Bio-Ops Apprenticeship. Two years of paid training, no degree required, and I came out a qualified QC analyst. My kid watched me do homework at the kitchen table for two years, which I think was the real point.
Marcus O.QC Analyst II, Microbiology · Bloomington, IN · joined 2023 as an apprentice
My husband is active duty and we have moved three times in six years. I have kept the same job through two PCS moves — Boulder, then remote, then San Diego. That is the single biggest reason I am still here.
Jess C.Regulatory Affairs Manager · San Diego, CA · joined 2019, military spouse
